The Regent Park Farmers’ Market launched as a pilot project last June as a new kind of farmers’ market for Toronto. In addition to offering fresh produce and products from Ontario farmers, this weekly neighbourhood venue also offered produce from small plot growers and rooftop gardeners from around the City who typically have not been able to gain a spot at other markets. The defining feature of the Market was the inclusion of resident chefs from the local community, as well as musical performances and artistic activities by local talent.
With an accent on quality and affordability, the Market will boast everything from a wide array of fresh vegetables; to halal meats; to small artisanal breads and pastries; to an assortment of cheeses and spices. Curries, samosas and pies are among the fresh foods that will be prepared by residents, and are sure to lend a local flavour to the Market. Paintbox Bistro’s Boxie will be serving up tasty treats as well, food truck style!
The Market will run every Wednesday through the summer to the end of September, 3:30pm to 7:00pm on the Urban Mews, along Regent Park Boulevard (adjacent to Daniels Spectrum).
Regent Park Farmers’ Market – Goals:
To establish and maintain a farmers’ market where community members can find healthy, local, sustainably-produced food.
To foster an awareness of the benefits of buying local by providing an opportunity for customers to connect directly with local farmers.
To foster collaboration among market vendors and to assist start-up vendors and food entrepreneurs.
Our long-term goal is to develop strategies for making local, sustainable food accessible to all community members while ensuring producers receive a fair price for their products.
Live Music and Art Performances at the Market!
Live music and art performances at this event are a part of the 2014 Daniels Spectrum Summer Series, made possible thanks to the generous support of two anonymous donors.
